Camped down at Ruby Mountain again. Snow up high, bout a half inch of rain overnight where I was. It appears in these modern times you can own a mountain and can own a river. Where is the Five Man Electrical Band when I need them? My lucky day, cause cattle had been grazin the campground. I picked up a ton of cow chips and never had to use any of the firewood I brought. A lady from California asked me what I was doin. Told her I was cleanin this place up so decent people could walk around. She told me thanks and I was a nice man. Bein a good camper, I left a pile beside the fireplace for the next old boy. Let them figure that sh*t out, literally!

Are you burning cow patties?

Of course, Produce Guy. I grew up in the southern plains, where trees were few and far between sometimes, so you use what's at hand, just like people did in that area since man first showed up there. 'Cow patties' make a very good fire. It burns clean, no odor like you would think, but it does burn a little hot, kinda like mesquite, so cook accordingly. I could find nothin in park regulations specifically prohibiting me from gatherin those. If you decide to go that route, use only the DRY ones. But I reckon you'll figure that out pretty quick on your own.

I am shocked at the private property signs. where is this ? That looks like the Collegiate Range. So you are somewhere near Buena Vista and Salida. My son worked at Colorado Kayak Suppy in Buena Vista and we have a friend who is a " kayaking ranger " on the Arkanasas

Ruby Mountain, roaddust66, south of Buena Vista and east of Nathrop. Rafters are allowed through (as far as I know) There are some ungodly rich people in the world (and bless their hearts for workin hard and improvin their station in life) that come up here, buy up an area, then proceed to stop any access to that area. I can't argue with their right to do that, I guess. I had to wonder though, if I stood where I took the pic and cast downstream onto 'their river', would I be violatin the law? Do they brand the fish in that section of the river? Not really a big deal to me, cause there's millions of acres I can wander around on and not bother anybody. (Plus the fishin's not all that great in that section of the river anyway)
