I'm researching this button for you.
I can't find a match yet in my scant resources, but I will continue the search.
After all, Christchurch is my home town.
Meanwhile. found;
Here's an advertisement for W. Strange & Co. dated 1900
Papers Past ? Press ? 28 February 1900 ? Page 2 Advertisements Column 1

They appear to be General Merchants, rather than button manufacturers, so possibly the button was made on commission; a Royal theme for a blazer perhaps?

Nice find ewymore! Where did you find it?

It came with a lot of buttons I purchased. Bought the whole lot looking for that diamond in the rough counting on the fact that the seller might not haven known what he/she had. Ive found some real gems so far, mostly British WWI/WWII era stuff....probably be reselling these as soon as I can get them ID'd, more into Civil War era stuff.

I could use any help you guys can give me on this W. Strange & Co button....Im guessing if you guys are having a hard time with it...then its fairly rare?

Late last night, on your behalf I searched all through the very long British Army Buttons webpage at the Colchester (England) Treasure Hunters website, and also through all 35 pages of British Military buttons at the UKDFD. I did not find a precise match for your button. But I did find that in the 20th-Century, a roman numeral was added in between the "GR" on some British Army buttons. I seem to see a "V" in between the GR on your button - which may mean it represent King George V, dating your button to 1940-48. The specific version of crown on it does indicate British Royal Army usage. There seems to be a fourth letter, which I cannot identify -- it might be a T or an L. So, I suspect your button is a "named regiment" British Commonwealth Army button. Because its backmark seems to be a New Zealand button-maker/dealer, perhaps your button represented a named regiment in the New Zealand or Australian army.

Yeah I did that too, but couldnt match it up precisely with any of their examples, it almost looks like a Dragoon but not quite etc...a couple of others it matched up with kind of as well but not precisely...then the backmark threw me off as well...but I think you are right...probably a Aussie or New Zealand army button from WWII....

Guys I really appreciate your assistance. Ill consider this solved for now...if you find anything else out let me know.

We'll get it eventually.
Meanwhile, in order to get rid of the crick in my neck, I offer;

I think TheCannonBallGuy has analysed it nicely. The additional letter looks like an L to me.
