Hunting an 1890 or so farmhouse in 3 KHz Mixed Mode, I dug something that I had thought was aluminum when hunting the previous time in 15 KHz MM.
It looked like a gold-and-green medallion or 'poker chip sorta thing'. The field magnifier back at the car showed it to be a 1935 'Radio Orphan Annie Decoder Wheel'.
I've seen a couple of these on Treasurenet before, but I didn't remember their role in the Jean Shepherd memoir movie 'A Christmas Story'. Now that several people have pointed that out, I'll have to watch it again. I must've been too busy coveting the 'Leg Lamp' and missed the decoder part.
About 6000 notches below the Vermontensiums and Chain Cents I've been reading about (and astounded by) here this week, but I sure never thought I'd dig one of these up.
