Still stratching around for land, so started in a friend of a friends Railway Cottage Garden. Spent 1 hour with just a small handful of stuff - all given to the owner.

Then moved to a stubble field for about 3.5 hours with not much to show.

Only things of note were:

17th C Large Button with flower pattern
Tudor Button
1838 Silver 3pence
Funny thing was we had 41 buttons today & 41 buttons yesterday, whats the odds of that :laughing9:

Oh well, dreaming of harvest already :P

In my book you did good. Any day I can walk away with 1 button is good day for me. I do enjoy reading all your finds.

It wasn't a bad day as we got a small piece of silver, just a tough one by our records. Still we have to try the hard land just in case, many a time we had the odd random great find from a bad area.

Did you find that figure in the garden?

:laughing9: I think the hat is 19th C Welsh :icon_thumright:

I think I will agree with Cru on this one, the hat does not look Dutch (not saying its not though). Is it a bell Cru? I found this bell sometime ago.

Bell - was my first thought when I found it, cleaned it out & it showed no signs of a bell inside. :icon_thumright:

Welcome back to the forum :hello:

Love that cottage !! And most of all, love your sweet finds !!

Well pity, is there not even a little place inside where the dong could have hung? Mine had bell and everything. It looks like a bell but the arms are kind of funny then for a bell.

I have really never been gone, just too darn busy. Wanted to get to England in the being of March, but again things came up and I could not go. Hopefully next year. Will talk to you about it.
I do have time once in a while to look and see, but of course there are so many items even every day that it just takes too long. I am retired so just don't have the time. Had a cold the past couple of days so had more time for the computer. Here is my dong (don't remember what the proper name is, but I am sure someone will tell me).

Forgot to ask, what is that at the end of the chain? A cap for a bottle? If not maybe that is the dong thing, but then there would be marks on that side...

I didn't explain that well, but no evidence of scarring inside, & the metal is a cheap plated stuff & wouldn't ring well.

I look forward to meeting up again & giving you a run for your money  :laughing9: :icon_thumright:

Woody,

It's probably best not to go around calling that thing your "dong."

It's a clapper. :icon_thumleft:

Still a good touch of silver, and some buttons--any one of which could've been something interesting or special...

Cheers,

Buck

Very nice finds :hello2:
What one is the Tudor button?
