I found this relic right outside of New Orleans in a area that dates back to the 1820s. I was wondering if anyone had any guesses to what it might be?

Looks like a backing for a brooch, like a cameo.

It seems a little too heavy to be a brooch. I'm thinking it's made of pewter or lead. Looks like it's lead filled.

Maybe the backing of a horse rosette.

It appears to be brass with a solder filled back. That would indicate buckle or rosette. Based on the size, I agree with trikikiwi that it is more likely to be a rosette.
