went out yesterday afternoon
Went to an old beach that was once an old amusement park
I had found old gold and old silver coins here in the past
this spot is mostly a fishing area now
I went to an area that was loaded with rocks - cause other hunters have a hard time digging around the rocks
especially without a mask and a good pair of wet boots
I got a faint signal - checked with my machine in ID mode and got a positive signal
I scooped down and hit rocks - I had to wiggle back and forth and work my scoop down
I could not get much out - so I fanned the spot with my boot and loosened the rocks - again
I scooped and took more rocks out - rechecked and signal was louder - it was not as loud as most sinker signals
are - I thought I might have a silver dime or wheatie down deep
I fanned some more and gave another good scoop - raised my scoop out of the way - checked the hole
- I had it in my scoop - The scoop was loaded to the top with rocks marble size to the size of your fist
I plucked a few of the larger ones out and looked in the scoop - the water was a little silty -so my vision was
not perfect - I saw in the rocks what I thought was a piece of yellow seaweed - I blinked - shook the scoop some more
and looked in again - I saw gold!
reached in and retrieved it and saw it had a nice big stone - it's a beauty !
The rings and coins from here have been mostly from the early 1900's - I have gotten coins from the 1800's here too
so I believe this ring is an "oldie" - did not get much here - but I got a gold - I was happy

Can see there are hallmarks on it. If you take a pic we can date it if they are clear enough, beauty too

its a makers mark - but not hallmarks
its like 4 "f's" in a row -slanted though = FFFF

CONGRATS ON ELEGANT VINTAGE GOLD RING -- WOW! The large stone may be topaz. If you inquire at the oldest jewelry shop or maker in your area, they may be able to verify what stone it is & maybe also recognize the maker's mark -- worth a try! Your no-quit approach to detecting a very tough place which other detectorists shun is a reminder to all of us that excellent older jewelry, coins or relics may be resting snugly for decades where most people won't "bother" to detect. My first and only gold ring was dug on small beach that I'd always called "the nasty beach" due to large amount of big old iron underneath the sand. I dug that ring by reluctanly returning to nasty old beach to test my theory that older jewelry or coins could be rammed up against big iron or the boulders there, I found a prize! 40-year-old ring that had clearly been underneath for decades due to thin skin of iron on it, which was easily removed. Still grinning as my gold ring is a custom-made gorgeous honker which I'll post if I ever figure out how to post my pics, lol. Andi

I wrote an article called - "Trash: The importance of picking it up"
have found gold under iron more than once - cause others threw it back or never removed it

Casper, that ring is gorgeous! I hope you are able to find out how old it is. My mom has a very similar one, and she thinks hers was made in the 20's or 30's.
