I was way back in the timber mushroom hunting when I came across this. I believe there used to be a house there a long time ago because of the layout and what appears to be a cellar because of the hump in the ground and lots of iris coming up in a pattern that would've been around a house. It's about 4 inches tall and the upper part or brownish part seems to be made of poreclin but not sure. I'm wondering if its some kind of small oil lamp. Any thoughts?

On the bottom of the glass are there any markings,If so take some pics it might help in I.D.

Looks more like a glass bottle of some kind.

Interesting. Am I seeing this correctly? Is that a glass bottom with the rest being porcelain or stoneware. Are you positive it's two different materials that are fused together and not a very stained (glass) top portion? The cap appears aluminum and is permanently fixed, correct?

Yes it's a glass bottom and I believe it's glass all the way to the top BUT the brownish part is overlaying the top portion of the container and when I tap on it with my nail it sounds like porcelain. Yes I'm positive it's an over lay on top the glass. Yes the top appears to be aluminum and permanently fixed... its rough and some of it is turned up and you can see a little hole in the top where maybe a wick was at.bottle.webp

I can see now how it possibly "could" be an oil lamp. That is if the top portion of that is able to unscrew that is. You have to be able to fill it with fluid somehow. I can't see the top aluminum cap well enough to tell if it was made with those holes or if they are post manufactured damages. I can say that I looked for any type of small oil lamp that this could be and I couldn't find one similar. Are you sure that it's porcelain or ceramic type material and not something metallic on the upper portion?

The top portion is indeed porcelain or ceramic, not metallic. The aluminum cap looks fixed unless over time it's all folded in under the lip. I also wondered how could this be unscrewed to put more oil in to it, it boggles me. I haven't attempted to try and pry anything off as the porcelain part is cracked all up and it would probably crumble. I also have looked and looked for something similar and can't find anything. I even looked at old chandeliers thinking it may have been part of one and can't find anything like it. guess its a mystery :-)

The only other possibility I can think of is a perfume atomizer. I can't find anything similar though. You can try posting it here in the bottles and glass forum we have- Bottles & Glass There are some very knowledgeable people on there when it comes to bottles.
