Antique “US” War Medal???

This is my first post on this forum. I’ve been searching endlessly for a match on this piece and I just cannot find it. My impression is that it is some type of medal from one of the wars of the late 19th/early 20th centuries. Maybe a medal given to veterans but there is not mention of a specific war, which you’d expect. Any insight would be fantastic!!

Someone else said the same thing to me. There is absolutely nothing on the reverse unfortunately.
