any age on this buckle

Just posted this with other finds in Todays Finds section but was wondering if anyone could help me ID what type of buckle this is and how old it is. No marks that I can find on it but it looks like it might still have some gilt on it. I see some shiny spots on one side of it.

Looks like a horse bridle buckle. I find buckles like these just about every house site hunt. They are pretty common finds. As far as age goes, I would say 1880-1920 or so. I think these buckles were made for a good many years, and the basic design of them didn't change much during that time span.

Anyone with additional information can feel free to post it below. I don't have a buckle book--this is just an educated guess based on personal experience.

LOL! No. I have many other identification guides...but none on buckles If I'm going to spend a few bucks, I think I'd rather get a new searchcoil

It seems that our collegue has found a similar buckle
