Point balances have been a neat invention, with innovations along the way like sliding weights for quantifying in numeric units.

Since it has a serial number I wonder if there is a way to back track the manufacturer of sliding scale balance of earlier years.

It intended use could also be helpful in identifying the manufacturer.

It look fairly thick, from its appearance of your first pic.
