This item was dug on an old farming plantation in Georgia. The detector showed it as silver, but I don't think it is. I haven't seen anything like this before. Any ideas?
It probably read as silver just because of it's size, as for what it is specifically, no idea.Although I can tell you it was a sand cast design, my Grandmother used to do some sand cast lead items just for ornamental things in her garden.
If you haven't yet, you might post this on Today's Finds- for a broader audience and more responses. It's an interesting piece, and I'd be interested in what other people think. Good luck- Yakker
This is called a "wheel of life" or "wheel of the year" from most likely the Pagan, Wiccan or possibly Buddhist religions. This is a wheel with spokes and is also used by psychologists still today. It comes in many different configurations all with different meanings that can also represent stages of your life. Do a search for both wheels of life and year and you will be reading for a long time. It's a common tool used by Pagans & Wiccans. It could be really old maybe a cast out from the Salem witch trials.

A universal symbol of or cosmic unity, astrology, "the circle of life," evolution, etc. The pagan sacred circle plus any number of radiating spokes or petals form the wheel - a Wheel of Life to Buddhists, a Medicine Wheel to Native Americans, a Mandala to Hindus. It symbolizes unity, movement, the sun, the zodiac, reincarnation, and earth's cycles of renewal. Pagans use it in astrology, magic and many kinds of rituals. You can find these symbols on buildings and even the Rotary Club uses a wheel today.
