Hi all I also found this button today in the same yard as the railroad token. I was wondering if there is any button experts here today that may be able to quickly ID this button I did some researching and believe this button could be civil war era but couldn't find the source from earlier with my friend steve. On the back of button reads "Waterbury Button Co." with 1 star after it. Any more info on this button would help and be greatly appreciated!! Also a guesstimate on value? Thank you

According to the very best book on the subject of backmark-dating, "American Military Button Makers And Dealers; Their Backmarks & Dates" your button's backmark saying Waterbury Button Co. with a single star and an inner circle of dots dates from 1870 to 1900. It is shown in a photo in that book, so there's no mistaking it.

The specific version of eagle-I button in your photo was no longer manufactured after 1874... so combining that fact with your button's backmark means it was manufactured between 1870 and 1874.

I agree with cannonball....: "WATERBURY BUTTON CO. / (star) " dm, inner rope ring, backmark only used on sleeve, transition backmark, 1860's to post war, (Waterbury18small).

This certain Federal infantry button can be tricky to spot the difference of a Civil War and the 1870-1874 version. The button driftwood posted is a Civil War era Infantry button.. That button you posted is off RelicMan.com page and say's it was Button backmarks, Waterbury Button Co, Waterbury Connecticut. Backmark: "WATERBURY BUTTON CO. / (star) " dm, inner rope ring, backmark only used on sleeve, transition backmark, 1860's to post war (1870)

There are photos of the "post war" infantry buttons on the lower part of the page that represents the one of CrownVics
