Virginia Staff Officers Button, Civil War Or Post?

Found this button today and it cleaned up great. Also found other Civil War items as well, but the button has a Waterbury Button Co back mark. Is this back mark Civil War or post? Thanks!

It is in this book of buttons by Waterbury which is listed as being 1900. Perhaps it was available earlier than that. It is indeed a VA button. See page 10.

I think it is this one “24B” in Alberts book of buttons. Not really sure what year though?

The best reference-book for time-dating buttons by their backmark is "American Military Button Makers and Dealers; Their Backmarks & Dates" by William F. McGuinn and Bruce S. Bazelon.

That book says (and shows in a closeup photo) that your button's SPECIFIC version (there are many variations) of Waterbury backmark, which says "Waterbury Button Co. * " (or other symbol) was used from 1870 to 1900.
