I found this button at an old mansion that has a very long history. Even to the colonial days.
It's a flat button, about 2 cm in diameter, nonmagnetic but that's about my limit of knowledge on them. :dontknow:

When I attempted to straighten the one bent edge a bit, I figured it would be absolutely fragile!
But, this thing is very, very strong for a button that I supposed had been in the ground for hundreds of years!
Is pewter really, really tough? :)

Anyway, I wouldn't even bother trying to further ID this except that I'm trying to pin down the time frame of this section.
And, I'm not sure, but I could almost swear I'm seeing something that looks like an eagle on the back. I really don't know buttons
but I'm hoping that someone out there could check and first of all, tell me if my eyes are just gone. Then, if not, if they'd
know of any backmark with an eagle?

I see it too It looks to me to be a spread Eagle Backmark.I am not an expert so lets see what others say.

Yep.. American made button just like in the link.. I love collecting eagle back buttons like these... Def. an oldie..
