The Federal reserve bank has a tour of their Phoenix branch. But - they don't allow individuals to TAKE it. LOL. It must be a group of ten or more people. I asked if they had any tours planned where i could be one of the ten or just aded to the existing ten and go with them. She said they have some tours planned, but an individual can not be added to them. What? No "add-ons" she said. So, the ONLY way to tour the Federal reserve Bank is to have a group of ten or more, all from one list, and then ask for a tour from that.

That means i need 9 more people. Maybe 7 more if I take my son and wife. ANyone interested? I think it really WOULD be cool to see all what they do with the money there and how they handle things. So let kme know if you are interested. :-)

You couldn't even find out what groups were scheduled and see if you could get in contact with one of them? Thinking about it though, I guess they probably do some type of check on each person on the list.

Yes, an extensive background check is conducted. You will be amazed at the security once you arrive for your tour. I was able to take the Jacksonville (branch of the Atlanta district) tour. I guess I was fortunate as I was able to take a tour with another accompanying me. Plenty of time for questions. I recommend everyone to take a tour.

Here's your answer, maybe:

Do ONE of the following: a. Tour a U.S. Mint facility, the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, or a Federal Reserve bank, and describe what you learned to your counselor. b. With your parent’s permission, attend a coin show or coin club meeting, or view the Web site of the U.S. Mint or a coin dealer, and report what you learned. c. Give a talk about coin collecting to your troop or class at school. d. Do drawings of five Colonial-era U.S. coins.

Yup I'm planning this for my scouts as we speak. Pretty cool.

It's actually started me thinking along the same lines. We started Coin Collecting as a Troop a few months ago but it seems to have petered out pretty quickly. Maybe a way of breathing new life (and interest) into it again?

You might want to explicitly state that the reason for this post is to do some CRH scouting, otherwise you may have some overzealous unnamed moderator transfer your post to neverland without giving you an explanation like they did mine.

I'd love to check it out - I'll have to make a special trip though as I live in Vegas. I've been to the Philly & Denver mints as well as Bureau of Engraving/Printing in DC. Cool tours!

I also am an Eagle Scout, have the Coin Collecting MB, and am a MB counselor.

Gotta get as many people into the collecting hobby as we can = +demand = +value of our coins!
