While you wait for an authority, I'll express my opinion:
It's a tie.
While the use of 'prevalent', meaning dominate, is getting rarer, it is still synonymous with 'predominate' as meaning dominate.

Both are technically correct but "predominant" is the more "correct" term given the context.

most of the leaves this Fall are gold colored!!...............if you have a problem with that description Butthead, fix your own dinner. Can't I say anything without you trying to correct me? It's constant and I'm getting tired of it.
That's how it goes at MY house although most of our leaves are still green. :)
