I met up with Koleen Tue. a.m. for a little hunting. I nearly got skunked but managed two wheats ('53D, '50D) near the end of the hunt. Koleen dug a wheat and her first silver quarter, a '45. Now she wants a Merc and Buffalo nickel! :icon_pirat: :icon_pirat: :icon_pirat:
Now for my what's-it. Early in the hunt I found this T-shaped silver thing with a ~30" cable attached. I showed Koleen and she thought maybe it was part of a deer blind lock that someone had cut. When I got home my hubbie had an idea what it was. I looked up some Google images and he was correct. :icon_thumright:
Any guesses?

HH and thanks for looking,
Michiganne
p.s. Coin in the pic is a quarter.

HMMMMM????? That is a stumper to me! Be sure to bring it to the meeting as we are having a what's it night! looking forward to knowing the answer.

Might it be a snare of some sort?

Geronimoooooo....

That may be, but wouldn't the cable be anchored in the small "u" shaped end of the handle if it were a ripchord? Or, is the small "u" shaped end the place the handle is anchored to the chute pack; with the cable coming in a little farther up.............like this one?? :dontknow:

I have no idea what it could be Anne ???

EdleBrock is correct on this one! WTG It is a parachute ripcord. This has to be one of my most unusual finds. It was not buried but lying in some tangled roots of some downed trees.

And yes, Shortstack, we thought the cable didn't look like it was attached in the right spot for a ripcord but there are several different ways they can attach. :icon_thumright:

OK, that was too easy. :)

neat find Anne!! I would have never guessed a ripcord, very cool.

My question is if the ripcord pulled loose did the parachute open? Any body's in the immediate vicinity?

Steve

Congrats, Anne, got to be the most oddball find I've seen yet! ffd

That is cool. I didn't expect that but knew what it was right away. My dad was a paratrooper in WWII and jumped at airshows for years. He was in Guiness book for longest free fall for a while and in Ripley's believe or not for lighting a cigar while free falling. He also ended up in court when some pre PETA do gooders go upset because his dog jumped with him. He had to quit taking the dog up with him. The dog actually like to jump too. Sorry about the rambling I'll stop now.

That is a totally cool, totally odd find! Who'ld a thunk, a rip cord.
