Any help on cleaning green stuff from a nickel?

Found a 1925 buffalo nickel with this green stuff on it and I'm worried it needs to come off the coin. Anyone have a gentle cleaning method of removing this stuff?

Lemon juice works good, if that doesn't do it you may want to try a little vinegar.
 
I use salt mixed with vinegar. It gets the nasty gunky stuff off super quick!
