I found this piece today along the Patuxent River on the southern peninsula. This spot has a lot of History. War of 1812 came ashore here and an old manor called Susquehanna was on site not far.
The piece is all stone. Agate. No holes and the sides are smooth. I’m stumped!! 😳❤️

Welcome to T Net.
I’m a little confused. The outer rim looks metallic and I don’t see anything that looks like agate.
Definitely an interesting piece.

Hard to tell the exact size and shape, please post a side/edge view!

Found something similar looking a few years back and believe it was a single cell from a carbon based battery.

What an intriguing find! The historical significance of the area adds so much depth to your discovery. It sounds like a beautiful piece of agate—perhaps it was used for decorative purposes or as a tool in the past. Have you considered researching local artifacts? It might provide more context!

Apparently, you're not alone (but it's still early). 😁

First two pics are ok; second two don't enlarge well.

I'm with Blackfoot & Pepper on this one; that rim looks like brass--especially the radial lines.

It also looks like the rim is higher than the center, as if the center is encased(?)

Correct. It is a decomposed zinc-carbon battery cell.
