adding a back side picture and some dimensions could help in solving it. I can only estimate it is around 1-1/4 comparative to the lines on the palm of your hand. It looks like it had a couple tack nails on each end to attach it in some way to something else. It's a stamped sheet metal part for something is all I can say it is.

Could it be rubber pedal pad off an old toy? Looks pretty small.

From the size of it, and from experience having handled probably a few thousand guns in my lifetime I don't think it's in any way gun related.

Guys haven't any of you ever played with cap pistols? Back in the day before it was "bad" to play cops and robbers or cowboys and Indians we had cool metal cap pistols that weren't junky things lol today.
This piece looks almost exactly like the piece on the side of the gun that would lever up just like that of a Ferrari door and you would put your roll of black powder paper and fire away. I had a revolver like the lone ranger and a lever action rifle which has this type of piece on it. If im wrong hey im wrong but it certainly looks like the door to cap gun to me.
