Found this 2 piece button yesterday and pretty sure it's British naval, but there's so many variations. I would love to know approximately what year it is from if anyone can help with the ID. Thanks!

I'm tempted to flake off that outer crust and hit it with some lemon juice but not seeing any gilt underneath so I may just leave as is. Thoughts?

Yes, it looks to be Royal Navy, and has the 'Tudor' crown (King's Crown), which was used between 1902-1953. The roped border indicates it to be an officer's button.
