I think they were parts from a purse a strap with a clip that popped open to lock the strap down slid through the piece and clips opened to keep in place.Google purse lock closures you might find it.

Definitely not gold, and don't really look gold plated. Looks more like brass.

Agreed, look like lock pieces. Use a small key in the space.
