I recently got back into metal detecting after a 20 or so year absence. I used to use a Tesoro stingray. Obviously that was a poor choice for the land so when i got back to it I got an AT Pro. Got tired of the long search to find things in the ground and ended up with a pinpointer. Then I got tired of trying to separate out all the junk at trashy sites. So along came a 5x8 coil. Yeah I should have known it was going to go like this.

Anyway while out trying the new setup I found this item in the photo. Its about 2 3/8" across. It is non magnetic. I found it in Eastern Canada. Looks possibly greek? Anyone have any ideas? It looks a little green in the photo but it is not copper.

I also found 2 Queen Victoria large pennies that are now soaking in olive oil. I only spent an hour or two looking so it may be worth going back.

Thanks

Most certainly a Greek look to me, it's also cast, there was a crack or flaw in the mould. Quite common in lost wax method of casting.
Nice find.

No idea but I like it.

Sweet another Nova Scotian. Good find and post the large cents! (:

With the old pennies it looks like your're on a good site - could be some old silver there .

Ok thanks for the responses so far. I was hoping it might be something obvious. I'll take it in to the local antique place and see if they have any ideas.

I'l be going back to the site again. I do have hope that with the Victorian coins that there is more to find. There are some old cellars ans a well on the site. I'm 90% sure that the site has never been detected before. I have also found a few new places houses in the 100-200 year old range where people have told me to come out and have a look around. So it looks like I have a few more places to search. I'm thinking it may be worth looking around in the actual cellar hole. some parts of the site are very overgrown though and will have to be searched in the spring.

Glad to hear I am not the only one doing this around here. I have only ever seen one other metal detector around.

Almost forgot to mention the pennies are in poor condition and not worth posting. I could barely tell they were queen victoria. I'll see what the olive oil soak does for them.

My thought is that it's likely a Victorian era pendant. Classical imagery was popular then and a lot of motifs were used in jewelry. I've seen some similar pieces but there were so many finding an exact match may be difficult

Cool find, try posting in the what is it section if you havnt already. HH!
