Is there a thread on here for "What The Heck is it?". I found this but could not find any info on it. It's about 2 1/2" long, and
I can only guess that it's a projectile you'd attach a cap to the top of it, and toss it up like a lawn dart, then it lands popping the cap.
When I was a kid in the early 60's the neighbors had something like that.
Maybe I'm wrong, so I thought I'd get the community to take a look at it. Any idea?

Yeah, had something similar when I was a kid. It's called a cap grenade. I think since it has the spring, it's likely a newer version.

Awesome link bud! Thanks for that. I assumed there was paint on them, but it doesn't seem like they were. Cool Thanks!

I lost and found my cap grenade so many times as a kid, sometimes weeks would pass and I'd find it randomly in the dirt while gardening. Couldn't help myself to always throw it super far and then never find it for awhile. Come to think of it, the last time I used it I never recovered it, it's for the ages now.

The one you found looks better than the ones you got at the five & dime in the early 60s. The ones we got were made with cheaper looking pot metal. I can only think yours is older and better made than the ones I recall.

Nice!!!! Congrats!!!!

While they were officially called "grenades" when my friends and I played with them in the 1950's we all called the "cap darts!" Man, that was a long time ago!

Yeah I kind of thought so. Although the ones I remember were quite colored. This one was that dull cast color.
:headbang:

Yeah it's in really good shape surprisingly. No idea how long it was there of course, or the exact age., but I don't think it's from this century lol

Yall had some cool toys back then. When I was a kid my Aunt had and old M80 cherry bomb left over from when she was a kid. She bought it out at a family picnic, the grownups told us to git back, she lit it on the ground and DANG that thing was LOUD !
We thought its was cool as heck although I can now see why the things were banned.
