Found this copper or alloy item in field next to 1890 V nickel. It is hollow and threaded inside the neck. My first impression, until I saw the threads was that it was a lipstick. Now it looks as though it might have been a handle for something. No markings. Any help is appreciated.--Dan

Looks like the handle to a screw driver set they used to make. The different tips fit (screwed) into the handle. Cladius.

Could be very easily a handle for holding files since you said it had treads in it. That would be my guess, I have some wooden ones just like it.

It appears to be a very old automobile valvestem cover. I would guess the teens.

daninmay - i'll go along with it being a valve stem cover - i once had several of them that looked like yours but were in better shape. then again they were probably made when i was a teenager. wayne

valve stem covers get my vote too! I've found 100s of them. I live in an area where there are a lot of small stamping companies, etc. that manufacture car parts, and I have dug these by the dozens from places that are/have been shut down or no longer exist on the properties.
