Found this a few weeks back...

In an old mine? Behind a Ford garage? In a school yard?

We need context. What did you find near it? What era were other finds?

Matt,it was found about 5" down at a friends house in Victor Colorado.I belevie it to be circa late 1890s early 1900s,soild brass ,no moving parts, two pieces attached together.tube at the top is hollow,no markings.Believe it to be brass ,maybe copper ? Thanks

You read my mind NGE! Looks like a weather-vane piece for sure. At FIRST, it almost looked like a rudder from a boat! LOL! But I think I'll stick with the weather-vane explanation.

Does it make a melodic click when you slap it on your knee or palm? May be a high quality version of the double spoon musical instrument.

Thanks for all the replies !!!! So far the weather vane idea seems to be the closest. Don't think it is pedal for a piano,it is way to thin, but sure looks like one. I dont know about the insturment idea the 2 pieces dont move, but fit into each other ,1 male ,1 female. and the search continues,,,,,,,,,,,

I'd say weathervane whirlygig is a safe bet.

The thing that gets me is why the extra metal bar attachment? Design doesn't match the function.
