any ideas on this 1886 Sharpshooter pin?

I hit a spot that has some history to it. I've found old coins here before so I gave it another try. I came up with a 1886 Sharpshooter pin. It looks like it could be that old and the area could support a find like this.
I don't know if any of this info goes with this pin but it has possibilities. I looked up info on sharpshooters for 1886. I found some info that there were expert marksman that were recruited to work under the direction of Colonel Charles V. DeLand in Michigan in 1862. The men were moved to Fort Dearborn in Feb. 1863 to guard the U.S. arsenal. It might be a pin that was given to these men.
