Kinda looks like pottery but is a different color than what we find here. Out at the coast there is some black pottery tho. These pieces look like they have layers to them, that's throwing me off a bit. Where is this from, what part of the country?

Found in illinois near the mississippi river.

my guess would be charcoaled wood from a steamboat. pretty sure its not pottery
