I found this years ago in my yard, I was playing around with my 6000 di pro got a solid signal and dug this relic.

Great photos.

These brass items keep showing up from time to time. Its a replaceable gate valve from a water shut off. I recognize it from my plumber days, There are several variations. I have a patent somewhere.

BigCypressHunter is correct. I too recognize that brass/bronze object as a plumbing shutoff valve part, from my time in that field of employment.

Here is an example of a gate valve and a replaceable gate valve patent. Its not exact but notice the similarities.

Wow I never would have thought of that. The gates on valves I've seen were different, this looks like it could have been a two piece gate. Anyway interesting to say the least. Thanks for solving it Big HH.

Yes the modern gates are different (2nd pic). They are non replaceable in our modern throw-away-and-buy-a-new-one society. But the older ones could be replaced. Instead of being threaded in, yours just slips on like the patent. I think the ID is correct.
