Very interesting find, date wise based on the style I'm thinking 1840 - 60.

No idea what it is, but I like Todd's theory of it being a bootlace puller. :thumbsup:

It's part of a Victorian era hanging lamp.

these have popped up(including one I found myself) a few times in my time here. The conclusion is usually an argument of if they were part of a hanging lamp or part of a woodstove finial. My belief has always been same as dc matt, hanging lamp is my vote.

Thanks for the replies guys. The hook seems awfully small for a hanger, nor does it seem to curve around enough to safely hang something, but perhaps it bent over time. It is an odd piece. HH!
