A PM has been sent your way. :-)

I like them too but jrf30 beat me too it. For the record, they are officially called elongated pennies. They have there own category on Ebay, Elongated Coins.

My girls collect them ....but looks like I am third in line....LOL

I keep the ones I find on the beach. I have about 5 of them now from this summer that I have found.

thats nice of you to send them out to others.

Yea I find them MDing and CRHing. I put them in folds and in my brag book.

Growing up, whenever I saw one of those machines I would get one. I had quite a few but sadly I have no idea where they are today... :icon_scratch:

Looking back, it cost 50c to elongate 1 penny. The man who thought of that has got to be a millionare a couple times over by now!!! :D

Fun Fact

Did you know that the first penny press appeared at the World’s Columbian Exposition held in Chicago USA in 1892-93 to celebrate the 400th anniversary of Columbus ’s discovery of America? It was a hand-cranked model turned by the operator-not the customer.

That would be a good one to find.

Where I have seen them in the last couple of years is at amusement parks. This summer I went to Cedar Point in Ohio and got a bunch of different ones. I have gotten them from almost every big tourist type place I have ever been to recently - Universal Studios, Disney World, etc.. And they still take two quarters and a penny to make them.

If I remember right, if you put the heads side on the left when you use the press machine then you can have it come out with a readable date on the opposite side of the elongated design. Most times when I would use one I made sure I was running a copper cent through and not a p.o.s. zinc cent.

Here are a couple of ones from Cedar Point.

My parents have a refrigerator magnet that is a penny with a heart laser cut out of it, I think they paid like $3 for it... - LOL

Talk about easy money!!! :tongue3:

Pennyworth is a major smashed penny collector.
