Any quick tips for thinking what you dug could be gold not brass???

hi! struck my first two beach bracelets yesterday at 11 inches..hoping one is gold but its all tarnished and it could just be brass..any little simple way I can check..thanking all that respond..

I have read in the past that if you take a coffe cup and turn it upside down. There is an unglazed ring. If you scratch the piece on it and it leaves a gold colored mark on the cup then it is probably gold. If the mark is black then it is not gold. The only problem is, it may scratch your jewlery.
 
Take it to someone that is buying gold and silver. They will test it and tell you if it is gold or not and how much they would pay for it. You then can say no thanks it not enough then get it back and be on your way......Matt
