Luigi Faggian left La Spezia in 1938 on the Italian ship Falco to salvage the Merida off Virginia. There's newspaper reports on this. I have a good bit of research on the Merida. But I have in my memory somewhere that Luigi Faggian was the director of SORIMA at that time. In cleaning up my research, I cannot find any proof of this. In fact, SORIMA got a contract subsequent to Faggian's salvage attempt, but never exercised it. This leads me to believe he was not acting on behalf of SORIMA when he came to Virginia. Anyone know if he was related to SORIMA or not?

I hope this information is helpful

oh, I just read about the Merida.
"At the time of Merida's loss, her total value including the ship and the cargo was estimated to be approximately US$2,000,000 (equivalent to $67,000,000 in 2024)"

I hope you get it!!!

Thanks for engaging this achanceforgold. All other records show (and it is well known) that Giovanni Quaglia is the founder of SORIMA. This is why I am confused by this connection of Luigi Faggian. There is no mention of him in any reports of SORIMA or David Scott's books on the company. And to be clear, I am not "going after" the Merida. She was salvaged a long time ago. I'm just cleaning up my records.
