Any Tips on Detecting the Treasure Coast of Florida???

Planning a trip to the Port St. Lucie, FL area in mid December and hope to do a little bit of beach detecting. Never been there before, and this would be my first go at beach detecting. If you are familiar with the area:

What would be some of the better spots to try?

Are all the public beaches open to detecting and what rules should I be aware of?

Any other suggestions, tips, etc.
