Anybody know anything about gas drilling?

I was out in the woods digging today and came across a trailer that had off loaded at least a hundred orange bags filled with wire. On top of each bag was a orange funnel shaped plastic object about 3' in dia. along with a square metal box with wires coming out. What are purpose of all these.

Possibly seismic locating sensors . Where you located ? Speculation in 'deep' natural gas is big
in my area of WV right now .

Deep[ gas drilling is just starting in this area now. I've been to several meetings where the locals are concerned about the hazards of frac water and how they are going to dispose of it. Most of the truck traffic on the roads now are water trucks hauling water.

You still didn't say where you are located .That has a bearing on equiptment .

Whoops. Northern Pa. This equipment was on a ridge top between 2 valleys.

Yep , probably sensor equiptment to be lowered into small holes to map the convoluted rock structure where you live .
Be advised : deep hole wells have been 'disappearing' residential water wells along the Mason/Dixon line on the PA/MD/WV border with no compensation to the landowner/residents .

The same thing has happened in other areas where blasting or drilling caused existing wells to go dry. The owners were just out of luck.

It is for seismic. I take it ya'll are in the Marcellus shale?

Correct swampgal. This gas drilling is new to me and everyone else in the area. There are only 2 active wells in my county but more to come. Logging activity doesn't bother me since the tress will grow back, but with this gas drilling they have to level acres of land to set up their operation.

Born and raised on the drilling rigs. I am NOT a lawyer or a land man, but the land owners who have not all ready signed contracts weather they be with a group (ie the Friendsville group) or by themselves -you need to make sure you have the addend-ems in the contract to cover in case of water problems , wells, re-establishment of native habitat etc. Educate yourselves, and have a good oil and gas lawyer for yourselves. I have done a bit of studying on the drilling etc. going on up there right now for a friend. Learn from the problems and try to cover for what -if.

Gas drillers are arriving here by the thousands. My boss owns a large commercial building in the front of my work establishment that we just rented to drilling affiliates. It is going to be a huge thing here in central Pa. I hope the long and short term environmental issues wont be a problem.
