Anybody know electrical equipment

[Older The Better]

I know it’s an outlet haha, but it seems old, I don’t know if it’s 1950’s old or 1910 old. I want to wire it to a cord and have a Mobile outlet on my desk.
Im was going to get around to looking it up but for the time being I thought I’d throw it up here... looking for how old and who made it.

It is not very old, you can tell by the fact that the outlet has a ground
the old ones had only two openings for the cord. My guess is early 1970’s
I see by Bowwinkles post, that the case is much older, great call

I think that probably the original style outlets were replaced in that brass case with the modern outlet with ground.

I think it is a surface mounted receptacle like for a desk or table.

Charlie Definitely Nema 5 15 or 20 outlet. I believe this tombstone is from the 1920's with a replaced duplex outlet from the early 70's or later. IMO

Keep the case, replace the receptacle if you're going to use it. Looks too crusty to be reliable.

You can get a new black receptacle, and it will be safer than the possibly worn out not so old one that is in the case now.

No. The "NE" will be the manufacturer's trademark. (Which unfortunately, I don't recognize.)

But, as an electrical engineer, I definitely second the notion of replacing the receptacle with a new one before returning it to service.
And I would apply a liberal quantity of quality electrical tape too, just to be sure.
You will be, in essence, the manufacturer when you rebuild this thing. That means everything is on you.
You do not want to burn your house down, or get electrocuted.
You do not want someone else to burn their house down after you die and this thing ends up in an estate sale (or whatever).

Whatever you plan to do... do it right.
And remember, even when brand new, this thing could have had safety issues. Be careful.
Get professional help if needed, but hopefully does not come to that.

A NEMA 5-20 receptacle has the Neutral blade turned 90-degrees.
The tombstone one here is a NEMA 5-15.

(And being so old, I wouldn't put 20-amps on it anyway.)
Probably OK, but engineers are notoriously risk-adverse.

If it's going to be anywhere near any liquids (or maybe even if it isn't) I would also have it in a GFI circuit.
