Anybody know what this is ?

Hello I am new this forum and I am hoping that some member will recognize this rock.

A large specimen non magnetic weighs 1.7 lbs and measures 5x3x2.5in. Its very heavy, looks like black and small transparent brown or red stones?

Welcome. It would help to know where it came from. It looks metamorphic in nature. You can rule out tourmaline or uraninite. There are a lot of minerals of that color.

The black mineral looks similar to black tourmaline that I find around here. The matrix looks different though.

I traded for it in Northern California, but I am not sure of its origin.
