I have been CRHing for about a month now and I cant really get off the high of finding my first Indian head in a box.

Don't get me wrong, I love my silver, but I find pennies more fun to go through. also, you get way more for a much cheaper price. All that says to me is more opportunity for less money.

I am going to get 50 Worth in a few, and yesterday, I turned in 75 worth (the teller was mean to me before anyway).

Am I alone with the penny addiction?

I like to do pennys too. They don't take up a lot of space and it's nice when you find a key date.

I'm not doing any CRH, but I do love the pennies. (Techinically they are cents, but that's neither here nor there.) Anyhow, a penny can return the biggest PERCENTAGE than nearly any other coin still in circulation. 1 cent can be worth $30.00 - a 3,000 % increase - not too shabby! And that's only an average example.

Just got done with my first box, and this is what I got.

9 wheat's

I gotta wait till my girlfriend gets off of school to open the next box, but it will be posted too.

Of course I love pennies, bought to rolls, and it gave me 4, one being a 1920

I started searching pennies recently.....haven't searched many but I agree....it is enjoyable.

I enjoy searching cents, and I use to do that as a child. My grandmother would give me $10.00 or something like that to go buy rolls of cents at the bank. She would babysit me and I would open up the rolls and look for wheaties. I never found an Indian Head cent while crh, at leat not yet. But I am still looking for my first one! ;D

I hunted my first coin rolls today....halves and dollars, and I really like it.
I went and got my daughter's penny jar... it's a water cooler tank that is half full of pennies, and we are going to go through that tonight looking for Wheat pennies and Indian Head pennies.

I like this hobby. You find neat things and it doesn't cost anything.

pennies are fun too. Are you working on a whitman? I have found one IH this year. it was a rush.

So you have to wait until yours leaves to hunt too? I know how it feels man, you're not alone.

I don't hunt pennies but probably will in the future however -

My wife started hunting with me and loves it!
Sometimes we fight over the last roll!
Get the gals involved if you can!

Although I like to search just about any coin. I would say my favorites are in the following order:

1. Nickels
2. Pennies
3. Halves
4. Dimes
5. Quarters
6. Large Dollars
7. Anything but SBA/SAC/Pres Dollars
8. SBA/SAC/Pres. Dollars

Although the return on investment currently isn't that great, I think the reason I like nickels is the following:

1. The number of "keepers" per box (average around 25)
2. The frequency with which I find pre-Jefferson nickels is much better than the frequency with which I find Mercury dimes or Indian head pennies.
3. Usually about 1 silver war nickel per box.
4. Relatively low cost.

I have always enjoyed pennies because of the sheer number you can search for the cost. the only pain is cashing them back in when you get $200-$300 worth. :P

Halves are currently high on my list, possibly even above pennies mainly because I don't have many pre-Kennedy halves and I only recently began to search them regularly. The only reason, they are #3 is they are a pain to acquire in volume compared to pennies due to availability and cost.

I actually have never really searched SBA/SAC/Pres. Dollars as of yet, though I have considered trying it once just to see what I find. One of biggest concerns is finding too many foreign coins per box to justify the cost of the search since each foreign coin in a SBA/SAC bag/box would cost $1 each and I don't know where the payback would come from... proofs maybe if you can find any.

I have also always wanted to go try searching canadian coins just to see what I find... particularly dimes, quarters, and halves since their switch from silver was more subtle to the naked eye. But I haven't yet gotten the chance, at least not yet. I tried once at a Canadian casino, but it was already coinless 9 years ago when I was there. Or was it that they didn't use real coins. Either way, there wasn't anything to search.

Yea, I usually buy one box for me to search, and one for both for us to search together. That, and I would never be able to wait to open them if I only had 1 box.

she likes it because she practically got tackled when I found my indian head.

you have no idea the controversy between the two of us...He's my ex now, hooray!

I love the WHEATIES!!! I have been collecting them for years!!! Only since Oct 2007 have I been TILL HUNTING though...found a Indian Head Cent...extremely worn, but you can still see the date.

Since Oct ... I search for pre-'64 dimes (which I found about 3 or 4 in the TILLS....collect all pre-1970 nickels (even found a PROOF 1985S Nickel!!!!...in the TILL!!!!) and I love Bi-Centenial Quarters! As for other Quarters....can't find anything older than a 1965 >:(.....

One night of TILL HUNTING...I found 9 Wheaties....whooo hooo!!!

TILL HUNTING is just as fun as COIN ROLL HUNTING....except mine is always being exchanged...just have to make sure I trained all the cashiers correctly...some let me know when they find a Wheatie or a Foreign Coin (like those too)....

Except, I have one who likes to collect the Bi-Centenial Quarters (I let him have them...) and another one who recently found when opening a new roll of dimes...at 1937? Merc...can't remember the year...but it was in the 30's...I even offered him $1.00 for it and he wouldn't give it up...oh well, his gain, my loss :(

Happy Hunting...whether it be COIN ROLL or TILL :)
Annmarie

PS: don't like collecting the dollar coins, sacs ...but keep my eyes open for the older half dollars and some of those older dollar coins.

I haven't done any CRH yet, but I intend to start soon and I think I will start with pennies.
Wheat pennies are fun to find. Yesterday I went through some change we had accumulated and found two of them -- a 1947 and a 1920.

Not for me. I have big hands and they are to small....especially after working with halves.
