anyone got a clue???

I collect indian artifacts and found this mystery piece last winter in a creek in central ohio.It is approximately 5 1/2 inches in diameter and 5 inches thick.It is very dense and weighs a little over ten pounds.It is very symmetrical and has a central ridge that goes around the whole piece(from casting??)I dont know the material.I have done a hardness test and it is harder than a 16 penny nail,I also took a swing at it with a framing hammer and it barely chipped the surface.I dont believe it is hollow and there is no plug that would be found on explosive cannonballs.My guess is that it is a cannonball,but that is only a guess.I have ruled out it being a geo.So what is itI appreciate any help on this piece.Thanks in advance.Greg

Take a file or dremel to it in one small spot, make a window and see what it looks like part way inside.

See what it streak tests too.

If it's hematite that is one big chunk...!

Greg-O....That's a Hawkeye practice football from the 1800's. It was used for conditioning, a predecessor to the Hoover Ball. Go Hawks!

The preseason BCS poll has PSU at 8, Ohio State at 10, and Michigan State at 18. AP & coaches polls put OU higher than PSU.

PSU opens the season against Akron - power house of the... well, never mind... In fact, PSU doesn't play a BCS ranked tean until Halloween (Northwestern). So, as usual, they should stay in the top 10 until late in the season when they really play somebody.

BTW, who is curiously missing from the top 25? Michigan - which means they will be tough this year because they're pi$$ed about not being ranked.

yea that was good one DCmatt, 2 days!how about TONIGHT!!!!the season kicks off with a good one out on the smurf turf, Boise st ranked 14th against oregon ranked 16th.oregon out for blood tonight after gettin the can whipped out on them last year by Boise.
