I've got probes, shovels, tarps and everything else we need to dig old privies. If you have an interest in digging old bottles and live fairly close to Dayton, we can help show you how it's done. All you need to do is get permission at a pre-1900 city home(the older the better). We use insurance maps to see what the property looked like in the 1800's. We then use the T-handled probes to locate the old privy vault. Non combustibles(glass, pottery etc.) were typically tossed into the privy in the days before trash removal service. Many exciting finds lay buried in these old pits. We lay down tarps around the dig site, cut the sod and lay it off to the side, dig down following the walls and return the site to pre-dig condition when we're done. PM, email or call Steve at
