I just found this thread, and I was wondering if anyone of you guys know how to read indian paintings or know of a website (or very good book) on reading indian signs?

For instance, the pic I am posting is said to be from the "Mogellon Indian" era. In AZ, we are talking about mastadon eating indians. I am just curious as to what this says

I have no idy

Kimmie,
I would recommend (presuming the drawings are located in Arizona) the Arizona Archeological Society. I have attached their web address. These groups can be a wealth of assistance, and they are usually sympathetic to the novice. In Oklahoma, I have prevailed upon our local society, and have gained considerably. Give them a shout.

Good luck,

Hey Kimmie,

You may know this allready but there is a section right here on T-net that may be able to help you out. Go to the Research/Techniques category and then scroll down to the Treasure Marks/Signs subcategory. Seems like some very knowledgeable people there that may be able to help you. Cool find there!

Your pics are to big to see.Try resizing them with Irfanview & repost them, not that i can read them but would like to see them... :icon_sunny: :icon_sunny:

This might help.

Thanks everyone for the replies! Docmann, I went to the Archeological societ's website, and there are some awesome pics on there! There was a form where you can submit pics of the writings you find, and maybe I will submit them. These pics are very near "council rock" in the dragoon mountains by Tombstone. Council rock has numerous ones all over it, but where we found these, there was no path or anything. Don't know that I could find them again as we were just walking across the mountain and stumbled upon them.

pynchinflint, I did post them on that forum as part of another thread of mine, and they told me to post them here lol! I've always been interested in what pictographs and petroglyphs mean as we find a lot of them in our travels of Cochise County and it's like a big mystery of what they were trying to say. Does anyone know of a good book that deciphers these?
