I received this coin or medallion from my grand father after his death. I have no information on it. Any one know.

1818 Vatican, Papal States silver Scudo. The coin shows the Virgin Mary seated on a cloud, the key to heaven in her right hand and the Church in her left. The Latin legend, AUXILLIUM DE SANCTO (Aid From the Saints) and the date is around. The reverse shows a bust of Pope Pius VII (1800-1823), PIVS VII PONT. M. A. XVIII (Pius VII Head of The Church in his 18th Year). Value depends on grade (condition): Range:$15 - $300.

Nice work, GH! I just posted the same, a split-second too late! :D

I am pretty sure this is two firsts for me in one day ....I beat PBK to the ID and I also ID'd a coin correctly outside of a 1976 memorial penny that was a wild guess...... :D :D :D

You're not just getting better... I'm getting older! :D

Thanks to everyone who replied. Now that I know what it is I will be able to tell my kids when I pass it down.

Thanks again
