iv used it on salt sand but didn't go into the water.i did notice it had some depth loss in salt mode, just wonder how it reacted in salt water waste deep?.iv narrowed my quest down to eather Tiger Shark or Sand Shark.

Dixie, the Tiger Shark will operate fine in the saltwater in the saltwater mode. It can act up just like ALL VLF's and PI's in the shallow surf where the concentration of black sand and salt is at it's worst.

The Sand Shark is the better of the two for depth, but it likes iron like all PI's.

thanks Sandman and i hope you are doing better!!!! DD

Hello Digger, i use mine a lot in the salt water and I never noticed any depth loss. The biggest issue i have with it is for whatever reason it loves hot rocks, it can drive you crazy. I use the clean sweep coil 3"x18" in the sand and definitely see a depth loss there but it doesn't miss too many goodies either, which are normally shallow anyway because they are deposited daily. In the off season here in the North East i use the 8" coil that came with it to get the deeper goodies. Good luck hunting.
PS. It seems like "global warming" hasn't hit our area yet!

Dixie Digger,

You have gotten some good advise so far on the two machines. I wish I could give you some first hand comments but I don't get to the ocean too often. I think what it all boils down to is how deep you want to go and how important discrimination is to you. If you need to go deep and you are willing to dig some deep junk then the SS. If more shallow and discrimination seems good than the TS. If I can help you with your purchase let me know. Joe

I chose the sandshark over the tiger 1. I use in the water exclusively, 2.I heard there very stable in the salt water more than the TigerShark ,, I just got mine this week tried it ,,its very stable and deep..the environment I hunt is not that trashy so it works for me , When I'm waist deep in the water you want to dig all targets anyway. I have a sov Gt for the dry and wet sand and trash areas ,works great for me . i wouldn't recommend the sandshark in the dry sand and trashy areas. the combination of the 2 MD's works Great for me and my situation..I do want to get a tigershark in the near future i hear nothing but great things about it. Tesoro makes a high quality stout MD with lifetime warranty you can't beat .Its a no brainer ,, guzz1
