Apush: Mintage Question?

Good Evening All,

Why is it that 1986P halves (13,107,633 minted) have more value than either the 1987P or 1987D (2,890,758 minted)? I have the 2010 Red Book. What am I missing? I am viewing the MS-63 column from the Red Book.

I collect the 1987s as they are, "Not issued for circulation; included with Mint and Souvenir sets." Can someone add some light?

It's most likely because fewer 1986s exist in MS-63 or higher than 1987s.
