Archaic Horse Effigy what is it for?

IMHO my best guess is that this is a ornamental object to hang on the side of some sort of a edge of something. I guessed from the edge in the middle of your object the hanger or lip on it's backside ?

We need more information about it and something for size as well as more pictures. I myself really don’t have any information about it for you cause I’ve never seen one before. What state was it found in?

I couldn’t speak of authenticity or anything but as far as shape my mind goes to atlatl hook. But that’s just a guess more than anything

This site claims they have a very old Chinese belt buckle made of jade. Still I would take that claim with a grain of salt in being as old as they are saying it is.

I am trying to sell a collection of Native American artifacts for a widow friend in Ohio. Most of her husbands items were bought at auction. He was an avid fossil and arrowhead hunter. I am not sure if he knew what they were either. There is a lot of good looking artifacts. Some marked and some not. As many of you know here I am not real good at describing this stuff. What I have found looking this item up is looks like it was made of Catlinite and came across horse head sacred pipes Ceremonial tribute to fallen horse, possibly Sioux. It measures five inches. Something to start with anyway. Thanks for any help you can offer.

Doesn't look like Catlinite (pipestone), to me. You say pipe, does it have smoke/draft hole, you don't show any. Need more good pictures of all sides.

I tried to the wear spots where the hand would be and still didn't figure it out. I am getting some good leads so far.

It is indeed a dragon-head belt hook, and almost certainly Chinese. Originally, the hooked part would have catched onto a loop on the other side of the belt or sash to secure it. Usually carved from jade, they served as status symbols for Chinese men.

Most of them date from the Qing dynasty (1644-1911) but, by the end of that period, belts requiring that kind of fitment had gone out of fashion and the hooks were primarily used as decorative objects or for other purposes such as brush-rests on scholars’ desks.

Nice. Do you have any provenance on the first 2 points? Those types of points are commonly reproduced. 1 has a Clovis style and 2 appears Dalton looking. It's hard to tell from 1 pic much about them.

The first two clovis are authentic. They came from a friends collection. He passed several years ago. I am trying to identify them for his wife and kids. Almost everything he had came from auctions. These two were in a sma;ll; glass case tagged Agate Basin and the other Meserve.
