are there any East coast Fl beaches still worth hitting this time of year?

Hi,

I am new and just purchased the Minelab Excalibur 1000. I have been MD Jacksonville Beach and St Augustine and I am not finding but a few coins. I have a feeling it has been cleaned up all summer by other MD's.
How far North on the Florida East coast do you think is a good place to start looking? I know Miami should still be busy, but are there any northern beaches still busy with tourist to possibly find some jewelry/gold. Maybe I am just impatient, but I have spent hours (4-5 a day) with not much to show for. I love my new detector, it really works great and I look forward to the summer tourist

Of course I am new and have not found jewelry/gold, so maybe I am not hearing the sound for it.

Watch the weather sanddrifter, look for cuts on the beach. Keep eye out for any weather system that sends waves coming in and hitting the beach from the North East direction towards the shoreline, it has a major potential to open up the beach for you if it is rough surf.....Look for small cuts, or pockets that have been cut by the surf, low areas that seem wet at low tide when all around it seems dry.... Any days where the weatherman talks about extreme or high riptides or ripcurrents can possibly be a good day......

Good luck, and yes even now there is the potential for a good find, not like 4th of July, but still there...........

coil over ALL of it? There is no way that what is in the water has been
completely covered, it can,t be done Don't beleive me; try to cover all
with your own coil and see for yourself.

Problem isn't all the good targets have been found, it's that the beaches are sanded in and most all targets are now deep. There are no fresh drops, or if any they are few......

All good targets have been there awhile now and they are now deep....You need to look for signs of cuts, holes, low areas that hold water at low tides, anything that helps you get little deeper.

XT18000, is correct, there is no way the beach has been completely covered with coils, go slow and look for areas that are low.....

In Spring of 2008 the Fla Central coast was hit with a subtropical storm, it stripped about 18-24 inches of sand off the beach, old silver was being found all over the beach, Seated, Standing and Walking coins were everywhere.....It also opened up a huge hole in the shallows, hundreds and hundreds of gold rings were found in that one hole alone in just a few days before it was covered up again by tides. Hole was about 20 yards wide and 30 yards long, you went from ankle deep to chest deep and back to ankle deep as you walked across the hole, and we were pulling up pieces of clay with our scoops, it had stripped it down to the clay base...... Many of the rings were dating back to the early 1920's-1940's..........

That is a minuscule piece of Daytona Beach...I sincerely believe there are thousands of rings still buried on just that beach alone, you just have to get a coil over them when they are shallow enough for our detectors to see them, and hunters are trained to find the signals....

Thank you all so much for the great information. You all gave me some great advice and I will try those out tomorrow. I really appreciate all the extra information on how/where to look. I also enjoy the information on why targets might be in a certain area. I am so glad to hear there is still plenty around here to find even in the winter. It has been cold here, but I go out everyday.

YAY!! Well I finally found some gold. I now know I am doing it correctly and so I plan to find more in 2010. Right before Christmas I found a Saint Christopher sterling silver necklace, small 14 k gold band and a 10 k gold band. I no longer think I am wasting the hours I spend looking. I love walking the beach, but like it even better when I find some gold.

Glad you found some treasure's!! Taking in all the advice everyone has given on looking for condition is excellent for these slow winter months, but one more way to pull those extra deep targets with the Excal is to hunt almetal/Pinpoint. On the northeastern beachs several hunters have to hunt like this because targets are so few and would be missed if you were hunting in Discriminate mode. This methold works best from the High tide line to the low tide line {wet sand}.....I hunt this style 90% of the time and it has turned bad days into great days.
