I dug these 2 small batwing buckles at 2 different sites and would like to know if they are knee buckles or something else. The smaller one measures 1 1/4" X 1" and the other is 1 1/2" X 1". Also, any idea on approx. age.

I would say harness buckles. You can still get them like that.

Thanks for the reply DC. I just saw a knee buckle posted on Today's Finds and it is bigger and rectangular and more ornate. I did find these at 2 early 1800's home sites so I believe them to be 19th century but wasn't sure where they fell in age. I think that you're right that they are likely horse tack.
