I dont think the small round rock goes with it as a pair I wound think they would of used a longer grinder or even a stick to grind with. Small pot is what I would call it and a very nice one at that.

the round rock was laying near it and it seem to fit so I stuck them together. LOL!

It is nice when I say paint pot.. I mean used for grinding into powder the dry material that is later used to mix with water to make paint... Or medicine for that matter
I wouldn't call it a metate( mortar) because of its small size wouldn't make much food
