I'm new to the group so if this is the wrong place please direct me!
I found this awhile back, but have never seen another like it. The only person I have asked is a professional safe restorer and he has never seen one. It is very heavy. The three dials on top: the two outside rotate the levers inside the lid. The center swings away revealing a slot for a key. I don't have the key, but it would be a large "skeleton" type. It is the size of an ottoman. image.webpimage.webpimage.webp

Don't know anything about it but Cool item! :icon_thumleft:

I don't know anything about them, but yours looks fairly new

No, it's not new. Someone painted the outside and used it as restraunt decor. Zoom into the lock mechanism. Looks hand forged.

3 dial strongbox...
Not as old as "Armada" days... but antique.

Cool safe.

OHHHH-BOY, is that cool!!

I agree with AARC - not nearly as old as Armada days. Might have been used on a stagecoach, but am thinking maybe more of a ship? Was made so that even if someone cut or shot off the locks, the internal mechanism would prevent theft. ...Might possibly have even been from the early 1900's (think Bonnie & Clyde days).

Awesome find!! I bet a good locksmith would be able to make a replacement key for you.
