hey guys i found a loophole for hunting at kenasaw mount.i read a sign that said no treasure hunting in the park.so i went out to the propertyline and found some neat stuff within a mile radious of the mountain.like i found a silver belt buckle from the civil war.ill have my brother post the name of it when he gets back from fl.but it goes for alot of money.i think. i hope. ???

My girlfriend's uncle is one of the rangers at Kennesaw. Let's just say I wouldn't want to get caught by him :o

The historical area at Kennesaw extends well beyond the boundaries of the park and many of the people who own property surrounding the park have discovered some nice things. Were you on private land at this point?

We've had a few threads on this recently. Make sure you have permission from the landowner before you hunt their land. Many of the owners surrounding major historical civil war sites know there are good things to be found on their land and they will protect them.

Just make sure you are on land you can legally hunt. You may be outside the boundaries of the park but you may be smack dab in the middle of a person's land who hunts the stuff himself. Not a good scenario.

An old Army friend of mine grew up in the Kenasaw area and dug up a Confederate artillery sword on the base of K. Mountain back in the 60s. He traced it to an old foundry in the area. Its modeled on the old Roman sword style that some artillery officers carried. It was handy for sticking into someone trying to jump his horse over an artillery barracade or in close-in fighting. I have it now.
